Elon Musk Says Animal Agriculture Has No Impact on Climate Change; "Eat as Much Meat as You Want"
"It’s not gonna make any difference to global warming if people eat fewer steaks. It’s irrelevant. I want to be super clear about that."
In a podcast episode with Joe Rogan on Monday, billionaire founder and green tech inventor Elon Musk stated his unequivocal opinion that animal agriculture and meat consumption has absolutely no impact on climate change or CO2 levels. Transcript below.
ROGAN: There’s a lot of propagandists that put this thing out there that animal agriculture is the number one contributor to global warming.
MUSK: Yeah, it’s rubbish. It’s not true.
ROGAN: It’s bullshit! It’s hot bullshit.
MUSK: It doesn’t matter. Irrelevant.
ROGAN: Not only is it hot bullshit, but the real problem is factory farming. Regenerative farming is carbon neutral if it doesn’t sequester carbon.
MUSK: The animals are not gonna make any difference to global warming. None. Zero.
ROGAN: It’s bullshit!
MUSK: Zero. Zip. Nothing.
ROGAN: Do you think that that’s just propaganda because of people that have a vested interest in like plant-based meat products and things along those lines? Green energy…
MUSK: I think that’s part of it. You know, you’re generally gonna get people pushing to avoid meat, like you know, maybe they’re just vegetarians, vegans or whatever…
ROGAN: Ideological interests.
MUSK: Ideological reasons. But it’s not gonna make any difference to global warming or, you know, the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere really if people eat fewer steaks. It doesn’t matter. It’s irrelevant. Irrelevant. I want to just be super clear about that. Will not matter, you will not even be able to measure it, okay, that’s how irrelevant it is. Unmeasurable. Irrelevant.
ROGAN: Isn’t it funny that that’s a heretic speaking? That’s crazy talk now. Nowadays, it’s like you have to say that we have to eat less meat. That meat is bad.
MUSK: No you can totally eat as much meat as you want. It’s not going to make a difference.
ROGAN: Sing it!
